Our Story
Mosaic Aotearoa was founded in Whakatū Nelson in 2023 by Chris Ensor and Gerry Dysart, two forestry professionals with backgrounds in estate-scale plantation forestry and a shared passion for the environment. Our business began in Gerry's garden shed, built on the belief that forestry advice should help landowners create landscapes that are productive, resilient, and ecologically rich.
The name Mosaic Aotearoa reflects our vision for diverse, resilient landscapes where the right trees are matched to the right places. Since then, we have worked with over 100 farms, partnering with landowners, iwi, and communities to create forests that generate income, protect soils, restore biodiversity, store carbon, and support the wellbeing of Papatūānuku. We value practical expertise, environmental integrity, long-term thinking, and trusted relationships, helping leave a stronger landscape for future generations.
Our Team, your partners
Chris Ensor
Director
Chris gained an appreciation for the wild places early in life, growing up in the small town of Lake Tekapo before moving to Wellington. He has held a lifelong passion for growing trees, and for many years has enjoyed maintaining a small-scale tree nursery to raise seedlings for family and friends.
Chris has since worked in the forestry and environmental space both locally and in Australia, from afforestation projects to managing the marketing of forest products on a large scale. He believes that forests can benefit the environment through different avenues, and alongside establishing thriving native forests, has led the establishment of biomass supply chains and managed carbon strategy for multiple large-scale forest owners.
When he's not working, Chris will be exploring the southern alps, mountain biking, and spending time with friends. He's planning future adventures to work in community forest restoration projects throughout South America.
Gerry Dysart
Director
Having grown up in the rural farming community of Marotiri, west of Taupō, Gerry was educated in Waikato and Waitaha. After earning a bachelor degree in Forestry Science, he travelled the globe. The experience gained from travelling, paired with his upbringing, sparked a strong awareness for the environment and our place in it.
Gerry's degree is complemented by over 20 years of experience working across every element of forest management, from establishment to harvesting and marketing. His farming background brings a strategic, long-term approach to land management, helping to create landscapes that will thrive for generations.
Outside of work, Gerry likes to relax with whānau and friends. He enjoys camping, hiking and biking in Aotearoa's beautiful natural environment.

Forest and Carbon Analyst
Raised in Whakatu Nelson, Ryan values the forestry industry for its people and the opportunities to contribute to impactful projects. He began his career planting trees in a silviculture crew before heading to university and later progressing into management roles involving GIS mapping, forest establishment, harvesting, and logistics.
Outside of work, Ryan maintains an active lifestyle, enjoying sports, camping and tramping, and spending time with friends.
